- develop fine and gross motor skills (Maria Montessori,1912) when the mix the starch by squeezing, pinching and feel the mixture.
- share and help each other during pasting the
- leaves collage
- enhance self-confidence when they gather and paste the leaves independently
- develop healthy social and emotional growth when they communicate and co- operate with each other happily (Kohn,A,1993).
- tell the name of the trees as they collect the leaves
- enjoy the beauty of the nature as they walk to the garden to collect the leaves
THE LEARNING CYCLE
•Observation related
•Children
observed teacher demonstrate how to mix the starch and then children mix the
starch by their own with teacher’s help.
•Interpreting learning
•Teacher
explained how the tapioca flour can be also used as starch to paste the leaves
as collage. Teacher also show a picture
of the tapioca, illustrated at the packaging.
•Children
at
this stage were already excited and eager to satisfy their curiosity for
garden trip to collect
leaves.
•Planning Learning
•Teacher
prepares lesson plan and the lesson objectives earlier on this activities of
outdoor learning. Teachers bring out all
the children to collect leaves for collage making.
•Contexts for Learning
•Teacher
assist children collecting leaves. Teacher also tell the name
of
the tree where
they collect the leave, like this is mango tree, and this is mango leave.
•Teacher
also, watch and help, when the
children gather
some
other items like sticks and stones.
•Supporting Learning
•When
they return to do the collage, teacher explains that stones and huge sticks
cannot hold to the starch and not suitable for leave collage. Stones and sticks
are heavy therefore the starch is not strong to hold them.
•Teacher
will
also interact by questions to children and
challenging
their thinking, for example, From which
tree this leave comes from ?, Can we
paste a stone to starch ?, etc.
